YOUR UNION
WORKING WITH YOU
For more than 75 years Local 44 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union has been extremely successful in improving the lives of the working people it serves. During this time the Local has grown to over 3,000 members in Northwest Washington and continues to grow with each passing year. As a member of Local 44 you will be part of the 1.5 million member UFCW with Locals through-out the United States and Canada
While we are proud of our past accomplishments, we are not resting on our laurels. We are constantly striving to improve the standard of living for all our members by seeking better wages and more extensive benefits. We are also working to make sure you have a safe place to work and are treated with the dignity and respect you deserve.
Local 44 is made up of men and women of all ages, young people in their first job and older people preparing for their retirement. The UFCW is a democracy and is governed by you and no matter what your ethnic background, political point of view or religious preference, your input is encouraged and welcomed. We come together as equal individuals whose goal is to improve the quality of life for ourselves, our families and our society.

ENFORCE CONTRACTS
Your union representative will work with you to ensure the employer lives up to the spirit of the contract by maintaining a close working relationship with all members in their place of work and to support you when you need to exercise your contractual rights or need help with benefit programs.
PROVIDE BENEFITS
The UFCW is constantly working on ways to improve its benefit package contained in the provisions of the contract and to provide additional benefits to union members
INSURE JUSTICE
All union members can expect the union to protect them to the fullest extent possible under the provisions of the contract utilizing the grievance procedure, the arbitration process and if necessary even the federal courts.
